Prime Minister’s Welcome

On behalf of the Australian Government, I extend a warm welcome to everyone
participating in CeBIT Australia 2017.

This year’s event comes at a time of unprecedented opportunity for the economic future
of our nation. Technological and scientific trends are re-shaping many sectors of
industry, and trade agreements are opening doors into expanding markets.

More than ever, innovation and science are critical for Australia to deliver new sources
of growth, maintain high-wage jobs and seize the next wave of economic prosperity.

That’s why my Government is committed to supporting a culture that backs new ideas.
Our National Innovation and Science Agenda is creating opportunities for innovation
and entrepreneurship, rewarding risk taking, and promoting science, maths and
computing in schools.

We are also working hard to support regulatory arrangements that will enable the
business sector to continue operating with confidence and certainty, and to reduce the
red tape and tax burden.

This is a time of incredible optimism, and I am greatly encouraged by the attendance of
so many delegates and exhibitors committed to sharing their ideas and strengthening
relations with peers from around the world.

I wish all attendees an enjoyable and productive conference, and thank you for your
contributions to our long-term economic future.

The Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP
Prime Minister of Australia
