About Dr Kate Harrington

An experienced executive with 20 years of service in the NSW Public Sector, Kate has worked across operational, corporate service, policy and strategy areas in a diverse range of agencies including; NSW Police, Housing, Information Technology & Management, and the Department of Finance Services & Innovation. She is currently the Director, Housing and Population Insights at the Department of Planning & Environment.

Kate has a passion for using evidence and insights gained from data for problem solving and improving service delivery. In 2011 she was recognised with the NSW Premier's Award for Innovation. In 2015, Kate created the NSW Data Analytics Centre and developed the Data Sharing (Government Sector) Act.

A highly respected and sought after expert in the lifecycle of use, protection and sharing of data and information, Kate is a member of two not-for-profit Boards working to progress open data and skills development for the best use of information resources in the broader community.

Kate has a PhD from UNSW in sociology which focussed on the effectiveness of public sector reform through ICT implementation.
