Executive Manager, Emerging Technology, Commonwealth Bank of Australia
About Chris Connor
I lead Emerging Technology for the Commonwealth bank.
The Emerging Technologies team identifies and experiments with emerging technology, with the objective of ensuring CBA stays at the forefront of technology. We also facilitate the implementation of the internal innovation ecosystems. This work builds on the work we did under Technology Innovation banner.
In support of this goal, I also run a series of Emerging Technology funds that allow us to look for, experiment with, learn from and implement disruptive or transformative emerging "over the horizon" technologies. I also advise extensively on emerging technology strategy, build large emerging technology ecosystems around our focus areas, lead commercialisation and investment opportunities resulting from the work we do. I am a strong advocate for the use of technology in enhancing Indigenous ecosystems in Australia.
The teams current focus areas include big data and social technologies, cyber, identity, crypto and blockchain technologies, smart machines (artificial intelligence and software robotics), the Internet of Things, ag-tech and next-generation compute, including platforms and atomic computing (eg quantum computing). We also look at the meaning of the "mesh" of all these technologies for business and society.
In this role I work with the Group CIO (David Whiteing) his direct reports and the Group Heads of Strategy/M&A and Investments to shape an optimal portfolio that aligns to strategy. Key to my role is building strong working relationships with a number of internal and external stakeholders both domestically and internationally.
