Hermes Award 2010 Encourages Post-Recession Business Innovation
29 Jan 2010

In a year when technological innovation is highlighted as a driving force of post-recession business recovery, Deutsche Messe is again presenting the Hermes Award, recognising exceptional innovations showcased for the first time at Hannover Messe 2010.
The awards are staged just as Gartner released a report finding that businesses will require an entrepreneurial chief information officer (CIO) to thrive over the next two years.
“Innovation is the key to success. Many companies realise the importance of innovative products, especially during times such as these,” said Dr Wolfram von Fritsch, Chairman of the Board at Deutsche Messe AG.
“Hannover Messe offers an ideal international stage for showcasing innovative products to a broad audience,” he said.
The 2010 Hermes Award has a top prize of 100,000 Euros for the most innovative product that has a proven practical application, or has industrial functionality.
Entries are judged in terms of their technical and economic value by an expert panel chaired by Prof Dr Wolfgang Wahlster, Director and Chairman of the managing board of the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI).
The presentation of the Hermes Award is the annual highlight of the opening ceremony at Hannover Messe, taking place on 18 April 2010
“We are confident that the coming months will see a large number of outstanding entries for the Hermes Award, which provides new companies in particular with a valuable opportunity to attract worldwide attention,” Dr von Fritsch said.
Last year’s winner was Voith Turbo Wind GmbH & Co. KG. The company was responsible for the pioneering mechatronic drive system, utilising dynamic variable transmission in the driveline of wind turbines.
For the developers of the WinDrive system, earning the Hermes Award provided a springboard to the global market for regenerative energy.
Innovation recognition is also set to take place in Australia at the CeBIT.Au Awards Night 2010, held as part of CeBIT Australia’s ICT Celebration Dinner on Tuesday 25 May 2010.
The CeBIT.Au Awards are open to all Australian and New Zealand exhibitors of products and services at CeBIT Australia.
Australian awards are conferred in the categories of Entrepreneurial Excellence, New Media, Engineering Design, Business Advantage, Early Innovators and the Platinum Award for Export Excellence.
Hermes Award entry application forms must be submitted by 18 February 2010. Further details on the Hermes Award and submission guidelines are available at www.hermesaward.com.
