CeBIT Australia 2012 On Track For Record Year

Two weeks before the doors open on the largest business event in the Asia Pacific region, CeBIT Australia 2012, the signs are already pointing to a bumper year.

On target to attract more than 520 exhibitors and 30,000 business visitors to Darling Harbour from May 22-24, there is a huge international presence lined up, led by a 70-strong delegation from the event’s Partner Country for 2012, India.

It is doubtful that Australia would still be host to the annual CeBIT tradeshow and conference were it not for the tireless work of Jackie Taranto. As the managing director of organising company Hannover Fairs Australia, Taranto has doubled the number of visitors since the inaugural event in 2002 to 31,000, swelled exhibitor numbers from 384 to 512, and built an extensive conference program.

Australian IT reports that CSIRO ICT has signed up for a four year European project to design an open platform that will help the masses of sensor networks forming around the world to communicate through the internet and eventually be sold as services:

The idea, according to CSIRO ICT deputy director Darrell Williamson, is to build a platform that will allow sensor networks — everything from radio-frequency identification chips to soil moisture sensors — to communicate through the cloud (internet).

CeBIT 2012 Opens Doors Tomorrow

Australia will be represented by 10 companies when CeBIT 2012 opens its doors tomorrow (Tuesday March 6) in Hannover Germany.

Featuring exhibitors from over 4,200 companies, organisations from 70 different nations and a conference program headlined by some of the world’s leading commentators, CeBIT will be attended by more than 300,000 unique business visitors.

The Australian companies who will be hoping to do business include Accloud and SMS Global, both Melbourne-based organisations.

The Australian government is calling for nominations for its 2012 ICT awards, which recognise standout initiatives in eGovernment across a number of ICT disciplines.

The awards, in its seventh year, are open to federal, state, territory and local government employees and projects.

There are three prizes to be won, including ‘Excellence in eGovernment Awards’, the ‘Government 2.0 Innovator Award’, and the ‘ICT Professional of the Year Award’.

Google and German Chancellor Merkel to open CeBIT 2012

Chairman of the Google Board of Directors, Eric Schmidt will join German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and others at the official opening of CeBIT 2012 slated for March in Hanover, Germany.

“We are very happy to have Eric Schmidt as the keynote speaker”, Senior Vice President of CeBIT at Deutsche Messe, Frank Pörschmann said, adding that , “As executive chairman of the Google board of directors Schmidt is among the international ICT industry’s most influential players.
