Symantec and Fujitsu Unite Server and Data Centre Systems

4 Feb 2010

Symantec and Fujitsu have expanded their strategic global partnership by providing joint offerings in data protection, storage management and information security.

Fujitsu’s Eternus storage systems and Primergy Servers will be combined with Symantec’s data and storage management software products, including NetBackup, Backup Exec and Endpoint Protection.

The integrated products aim to provide customers with streamlined data centre, information and risk management activity and reduced costs.

“Our customers continue to face flat or decreasing budgets in light of exponential information growth,” said Symantec Enterprise Products Group President, Greg Hughes.

“With this enhanced relationship, Fujitsu and Symantec intend to more tightly integrate our solutions and services to help customers improve hardware utilisation, reduce complexity, and improve operational visibility.”

The Fujitsu and Symantec deal offers a more complete line of server and data centre systems that do not require the purchase of additional components.

Fujitsu corporate senior executive vice president Masami Yamamoto said he was confident that the alliance would attract new customers.

“By combining Fujitsu's strengths in storage and server products with Symantec's leading software for storage/server management and data protection, I am confident that we will be able to offer a more competitive range of solutions to our customers,” he said.

Symantec and Fujitsu said they are open to future joint product development projects.
