John Thompson
Senior Manager, Marketing, Transport Accident Commission (TAC)
John Thompson is the Senior Manager of Road Safety and Marketing at the Transport Accident Commission (TAC). In this role he is responsible for the TAC road safety advertising campaigns which have won numerous awards for excellence, creativity and effectiveness from all over the world.
In 2009 John was awarded the Australian Marketing Institute’s Marketer of the Year and AdNews named him as one of the Top Marketers in Australia recognising his achievements in the field of marketing. In 2006, as part of the Victoria University’s 90 Year celebrations, John was recognised by the Faculty of Business and Law as one of its 90 legends.
Prior to his time with the TAC John was Marketing Director of successful property development company Urban Land Corporation for just under five years and prior to that he held roles in marketing and public relations, consulting and in the retail energy sector.
In 1993 while finishing his undergraduate degree at Victoria University, John had the pleasure of working alongside Kevin Sheedy in the Football Division of the Essendon Football Club setting up their then top-secret video coaching system. A system which helped play a part in the Baby Bombers defeating Carlton for the 1993 Premiership.
John holds a BA in Sociology and Communications, a Post Graduate in Marketing and a Master of Business in Marketing all from Victoria University. He is a CPM and Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute, a current member of the Victorian AMI Council and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.
