Randy Fennel
Engineering & Sustainability General Manager, Westpac
Randy Fennel is Westpac's Engineering & Sustainability General Manager with key accountability for Infrastructure and Application Engineering, Stability and Sustainability Testing and Data Centre Services.
The Engineering & Sustainability organisation is a centre of excellence which enables fast tracking and implementation of key technology initiatives and improves the quality of the bank's infrastructure and ADM environments. This area is also charged to embed outcomes into the 'business as usual' activities of teams under the accountability of other General Managers so that improvements are sustainable.
Randy has a record of success in CIO and service delivery roles and in leading technology infrastructure roll-outs for global organisations.
Randy has over 30 years of client delivery experience with major global information technology organizations. Previous to his recent role, Randy was CIO for EDS Asia Pacific. Before that he spent four years as the Client Delivery Executive and Chief Operating Officer on the EDS-Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) account and has been in Australia for the last six years.
Randy has held several very high profile Executive positions including; Managing Director, EDS-General Motors account, Global Client Delivery in Michigan, U.S. In this role, Randy was the senior operations executive responsible for US$2.8 billion in revenue and over 12,000 personnel in a leveraged delivery organisation supporting the G.M. worldwide infrastructure. This included 24/7 ownership of five large data centres, over 5,000 distrubuted midrange, 120,000 desktops, 1,200 applications, WAN and LAN networks, 18 call centres and multiple lines of business. Achievements included exceeding all contractural service level agreements, successful organisational realignment and making significant gains in efficiency.
Randy was also EDS' Enterprise Client Delivery Executive for the Airline Services Group which included Continential, America West, Aloha, U.P.S. and 38 other airlines. He was responsible for US$250 million in revenue and 1,200 personnel. In this role he operated as change agent to ensure effective team work, program management and high performance engineering teams that reduced outages by 75 percent in less than 18 months.
His previous work experience include, 13 years at the Boeing company where he held senior management roles as the CIO for Military Airplanes Division, and CIO for the Missiles and Space Division. His range of tasks as a technical lead before joining management included the use of knowledge-based simulation software for subsystems, robotic control, fault detection and recovery.
Previous to his roles at Boeing, Randy was with Control Data Corporation, inlcuding five years in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Randy has a Doctorate and a Masters in Computer Science from the University of Alabama, a Masters in Business and a Bachelors degree in Math from the University of Georgia. He has contributed to over 25 technical publications and received the Alabama University Computer Science Award for Academic Honour.
In addition, Randy has a range of career-related awards such as the NASA Manned Space Flight Awareness Award, various outstanding and sustained quality performance awards and he has been a Sloan Fellow nominee.
