  • The NBN is a critical platform to enable the digital management of health care data

Measuring up to improve water management in Australia: How the National Broadband Network can help

  • Water information improvements have been deemed a vital ingredient in national water reform, currently underpinned by an Australian Government investment of $12.9b over 10 years
  • The Australian Government has allocated $450m to the Bureau of Meteorology to transform the capture and utility value of water information
  • Hydrologic observing networks and communication systems are in urgent need of modernisation, and are operated by over 200 different agencies across the nation
  • Low cost but reliable, real-time transmission of data from widely distributed measurement arrays, including some in remote regions, is needed to make the step changes needed
  • The NBN has the potential to serve as a solid communications trunk infrastructure for relaying water and other environmental information
